首先,求職信Cover letter 真的很重要嗎?

除了有好的英文履歷之外,還需要一份針對你想申請公司和職缺的求職信,也就是 cover letter,英文求職信真的非常之重要!!原因除了求職信本身就是要跟著履歷發出去的一封信件外,更重要的是 – 履歷只能告訴人資求職者的各方面條件如何,而從求職信中才可以更清楚地讓你想要進入的公司你比其他求職者更優秀的地方在哪?為什麼他們非用你不可?

求職信可以說是你與應聘公司的第一封情書

因此,求職信是大家可以好好發揮並展現你想在這間公司工作的熱情,希望公司收到這封情書後會對你有興趣並且給予面試的機會。

求職信要回答什麼問題?

在寫這份求職信 cover letter之前,必須要先花一點時間思考如何回答以下這兩個問題 :(這兩個問題其實就是公司會想要從這份求職信找的答案!!)

1、為何麼想要在這個公司做這個工作?

這個問題背後的含義是:你對這份工作有多大的熱情? 你是否已經在相同或相關的領域有工作經驗?如果有,非常好!用過去的相關工作經驗和想申請的這個職位做個完美的連結

那如果還沒有怎麼辦?我知道很多剛來英國打工度假的朋友第一份工作想做精品銷售,但在臺灣就是沒打過工啊!這樣重點可以著放在學校或是從嗜好培養出的相關能力,嘗試用這些能力去和這個工作要求的能力沾上邊

以精品業或是零售業整體舉例來說:須具備的能力有 team work, good communication skill, customer service, interpersonal skill, multi tasking, problem solving skill 等等,可以問問自己以前有沒有團隊合作的經驗?是否曾經搞定過很難搞定的客人?或是有無一次處理很多事還處理得很好過的經驗?

*千萬不要瞎掰或造假工作經驗,因為就算這樣得到面試機會,也會在面試中露出破綻

2、你可以為公司貢獻什麼?

以我的瞭解這個問題的意思是,如果每個應徵者的工作經驗背景都差不多,你比其他求職者更優秀的地方在哪?或是有沒有對想申請的這間公司有任何不同想法或建議?

講到這邊大家可能會覺得求職信好像很麻煩而且要寫得東西好像很多,但不用擔心!以上內容簡單扼要就好(A4紙大小一面以內),畢竟這是與公司的第一封見面信還是要吸引公司看你的履歷。而且準備這些問題都是在為之後面試中的問答做好練習!

求職信的寫法大綱

在信件的開頭部分,以信件的寫法放上 Dear Mr / Mrs __________ ,

字型的大小 : 12 / 字型 Century Gothic

長度最多不超過A4一面

內文分為三個主要段落 :

第一段說明想要申請的公司職缺以及從哪裡得知這個工作的訊息

第二段用來回答以上說的兩個重要的問題

最後一段表示感謝希望收到公司的來信

第一段 EXAMPLE :

I am writing to apply as a sales associate in __Burberry__(company name)which has been advertised on _________ (websites name).

這一段只需開門見山的註明清楚欲申請的職位及公司名稱,和從哪裡得知此職缺的訊息即可,讓人資可以馬上知道這個應徵者想要申請的部門職位以便做後續處理,這也是把這些資訊放在第一個段落的原因

第二段 EXAMPLE :

I have previously worked in Charles Tyrwhitt (company name) as a sales assistant (position) in London for 1 year. Three months after joining the company, I became the top sales of the company branch. I was able to successfully assist Chinese customers in particular to make purchases while maintained a good level of overall customer satisfaction by my language expertise. Through this experience, I have gained skills such as customer service, sales, teamwork and problem solving skills.

I have an extensive background in relationship building and finding ways to connect with people. Combined these skills learned from CT and my knowledge in menswear, I believe that Burberry’s menwear department is the perfect place for me to utilise my customer service skill sets and fully contribute to your company.

第二段是整個信件中的核心部分,需要好好把以下這兩個問題回答清楚:

為何麼想要在這個公司做這個工作?上面英文第一句的部分我用過去在零售業的工作經驗作為連結。接著敘述我在加入公司後三個月後達成的一個小成就,就是成為分店的銷售王!因為我的語言的優勢讓我更有辦法讓我服務的中國客人埋單 ; 並且說明從這個經驗中學到哪些能力?

你可以為公司貢獻什麼?上文中寫到我除了有善於與人打交道的個性,加上在之前公司 (CT)賣男裝的經驗,我相信能夠將所學和經驗發揮在貴公司 (Burberry)

我用了一個非常簡單的例子來說明求職信內容的大致的方向以及需要回答到的重點,當然這不是完美的範例也需要依照每個人想投的公司型別和職缺去做適當的修改

最後一段 Example :

寫英文求職信的內容:

格式與態度: 寫英文求職信時,開頭寫每段第一句話時, 要頂格寫, 一定不要空兩格. 這點很重要, 請你注意; 不要用開玩笑的口吻與對方套近乎, 要嚴肅, 認真地寫.這能使對方感覺你很重視這件事情; 簡短介紹自己的專業與才能. 重點寫清楚你的能力可以滿足對方公司的需要.

各人資料: 寫英文求職信時,寫信人應述明自己的.年齡或出生年月,教育背景,尤其是和應徵的職位有關的訓練或教育科目、工作經驗或特殊的技能;如無實際經驗,告知對方你正在學習經驗!

寫英文求職信要點:

篇幅不易過長, 簡短為好;態度誠懇, 不需華麗 詞彙 ; 讓對方感覺親切, 自信, 實在即可;不要誤看其他錯誤的寫作方法, 以免耽誤了你的求職機會.

紙張的選用: 建議你用灰色,黃褐色或米色紙作最終列印信紙. 要配合信封的顏色.

書寫:字型要寫得整潔可辯,使用打字機把信打出來.具有專業感.

附郵票: 英語 求職信內需附加郵票或回址信封.

語法: 準確無誤的語法,標點拼寫使讀信人感到舒暢.錯誤的語法或拼寫則十分明顯,一望即知.且不可把收信人的姓名或公司地址拼錯了.

第一、一般建議:

或許你可以從網上或學校提供的求職指引得到一些寫個人簡歷的模板,但僱主通常對千篇一律的求職信不感興趣。因此,千萬不要複製一些標準的模板。你的CV應該是你自己的,個性化的,但又跟個性化不同。

首先,個人簡歷應該用文書處理軟體來打出,並用質量好的印表機列印。注意不要用太多不同的字型和大小,不要用其它顏色。但推薦用加粗或者下劃線標出少數的重要的關鍵詞,便於僱主找尋他想看到的詞。

其次,不要忘記在計算機上用"拼寫和語法"工具查拼寫錯誤和語法錯誤,或者讓其他英語水平好的朋友檢查。

再者,強烈推薦用Word工具欄的"專案符號"或"編號".想一想僱主可能半個小時要讀完100封CV,所有CV的下場只有兩者:可考慮或者垃圾桶。因此,你的個人簡歷一定要設計成能快速閱讀,短而精,引起讀者興趣。

還有,針對不同的僱主和要求對個人簡歷作一些輕微而必要的修改,這一點用文書處理軟體是一件簡單的事。

最後,寫好草稿之後,讓你的老師,家人或者你的朋友看,問他們假設他們是僱主的話應如何改動才會好一點。重新再看多幾次,用紅筆修改,使簡歷顯得更精簡,可讀性更高,更容易理解。

第二,動筆之前

坐下來仔細閱讀你想申請的工作的廣告,甚至他們並沒有打出招聘廣告你也可以試一下。列出他們的要求,比較你自己的技能,教育程度,工作經驗等。很多時候,招聘廣告所給的資訊並不足夠,除了站在他們的角度想象一些可能的要求之外,你還必須對相關的僱主和/或其公司的情況,例如公司結構,產品,成功之處,發展巨集圖等進行搜尋作一些瞭解。搜尋的途徑主要有:因特網,其公司的正式檔案、宣傳資料、報告,報紙報道等。

第三,書寫風格(Style)

大體上有兩種。第一種是按時間循序式(Chronological),所有的資訊包括在鮮明的標題下,例如教育程度、工作經驗等。這一種方法容易入手一些。第二種稱為技能針對式(Skills Based),就是根據技能要求列標題,所有個人資訊分別列舉在相應標題下。這一種比較高難度。

第四,簡歷長度和紙張格式

1-2頁。一定不要超過三張A4紙(特殊工種除外),因為僱主沒有那麼耐心和時間看完你的業績。注意,大部分情況下用正式的白色紙張和黑色字型,但某些情況可以改變。例如你申請的是電視臺節目或者影象設計等相關工作時,可以考慮用彩色紙張,別出心裁的設計等。

第五,組成部分

1,個人資料(PERSONAL DETAILS)

包括姓名(建議用英文名字加上自己的姓以便聯絡和稱呼),電話號碼,電子郵件地址,聯絡地址(因在信封上和求職信中已包括,可以考慮不列出),生日(各地文化不同,通常沒必要列出),性別(如果你用英文名的話不必列出),還有個人網址(如果你覺得製作得不錯的話)。沒必要列出國籍(在國內的話多此一舉,在國外的話此舉會降低你的面試機會)

2,教育程度(EDUCATION)

主要列出大學或者專科的學習情況。所學科目,所得學位或畢業程度,每年所學的跟求職工種相關的課程,還有自己參加的相關專案(Project),所寫的論文(Thesis/dissertation)等。另外如果獲得獎學金或其他嘉獎的話不妨列出。

高中畢業情況很簡要的列出,比高中遠的學歷沒必要列出。

建議按照由近到遠的時間循序列出。

3,工作經驗(WORK EXPERIENCES)

列出你最近的工作經驗。給出你僱主的名字,你自己的職位,還有非常重要的是,你在工作崗位上所作的成績和貢獻。如果沒有突出的成績,可以列出你的職能,例如接待多少客戶,完成多少專案,協助完成多少項公司交易等。

另外,只要是與所求職位相關的工作經驗,即使是很短期的Part-time工作,也不妨把它列出來。

4,技能長處(SKILLS)

包括語言能力,計算機水平和經驗,有否駕駛照等

5,個人興趣(INTREST / EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES)

簡要地列出你的一些個人興趣,例如體育專案(如果你跟僱主的興趣相同的話更佳)、集體活動、志願工作等,尤其是如果你在這些活動中擔任領袖(leadership)的話。注意一定要簡練。舉個例子,如果你曾擔任系籃球隊隊長的話,僱主沒有興趣知道具體你什麼時候擔任,打過幾場比賽,贏過幾場比賽等。假如他們對這些有興趣的話會在面試的時候問你。

這一部分可以讓僱主從側面瞭解你的群體協作程度和正面的社交性格。

6,推薦信和/或推薦人(REFERENCES/REFEREES)

通常列出兩個名字,一個來自大學,另一個來自任何工作環境(全職/Part-time/義工)。如果沒有的話,可以列出對你非常瞭解的比你年長的家庭朋友。然後給出他們的職位,工作電話和夜間電話(事先必須獲得他們的同意)。

7,可選項(Optional extras)

在開頭可以採用個性化的宣告(Personal Profile/Objective statement),用兩到三個句子概括你的能力,資格,希望和計劃。這一點可以引起僱主閱讀的興趣。

另外,你還可以在簡歷上加一張你自己的照片(掃描或者在文件貼上)。但照片必須是積極的照得很好的,而且是"活潑"的(不要看起來病態、囚態、魔態或者古板)。

另外,差點忘了一點,就是在前面加上你的職位目標(JOB OBJECTIVE),通常是招聘廣告所列出的職位。

第六,求職信(Cover letter)

對於某些工作,僱主會先發給你相關申請表格。這時你仍然需要寫一封求職信(Covering letter),以及你的個人簡歷(CV)(除非僱主有表明不必要)。

注意,填寫表格與寫CV一樣,要求乾淨和清晰,用黑色鋼筆或圓珠筆(便於影印)。

推薦:用另外的紙張寫出你的答案,或者先把表格影印下來,在影印件上寫和改動,最後確定才把它抄到正件。

完成之後,影印一次然後保留影印件,以備面試之用。

注:可能的話,保留所有已傳送的求職信,申請表格和個人簡歷,以及打電話詢問的紀錄和你所詢問的人的姓名,或者把其儲存到電腦裡。

第八,面試(INTERVIEW)

學會如何把握一個面試機會同樣是十分重要的。你可以從圖書館或者因特網上找到一些面試常見的問題,然後讓你的老師,同學或者朋友跟你進行練習。

到了真正面試時,積極和自信(但不要過於自信),以及端正的衣冠和禮貌是必要的。面試過程要謙虛,語言清晰,直截了當。與考官的眼神接觸建議在六成到八成五之間。

如果你被拒絕的話,善意的僱主通常會回顧面試的過程,告訴你如何提高關於個人簡歷和麵試技巧。否則你大可以虛心地請教他/她需要改進的地方,以便以後吸取教訓。而且,說不定,僱主還會因此保留對你的關注。所以,如果你以消極方式對待失敗的話,你會給僱主一個很差的印象,不但以後不會有機會,而且你永遠不能由此吸取教訓,迎接下一個挑戰。
