文風自然:使用簡潔通俗的語言，句式結構儘量簡單，不要為了求新求異而讓人覺得拗口。行文的語言不妨口語化一點，要有靈氣，就像是娓娓道來，但千萬又不可丟了分寸，讓人覺得猥褻。多用動詞，少用形容詞，更不要使用詞典。
具體而開門見山：自薦信的目的是為了留給人事主管一個良好的印象，使他/她進一步閱讀繁冗的簡歷。自薦信的重要之處在於它必須始終回答這樣一個問題:“我為什麼要任用這個求職者?”
避免陳詞濫調:寫自薦信不能落於俗套，像“我很有人緣”增加這類話最好還是少說為宜。 積極地心態:不要再自薦信裡抱怨以前的老闆，或者用“無聊”、“沒趣”來形容先前的工作。誰願意任用一個總是有情緒的員工呢?除此以外，還要注意不要讓人覺得你是在乞求一份工作，因為人事經理很可能會以為你的境遇不佳。
