翻譯部分由一篇400字左右的文章組成，其中劃出5個句子，要求考生在30分鐘內譯完。2002年題型更改之前，每句3分，一共15分，現在每句2分，一共10分。
1、翻譯的題型特點
a.體裁以議論文為主，內容和意義比較抽象。
b.題材具有顯著的偏向文科領域的趨勢。
c.句子長，結構複雜、從句多的句子劃線。
2、應對策略
兩個關鍵：
一、英語的語法結構、邏輯結構
在翻譯的基本過程中，理解英語原文是我們進行翻譯的前提。
在試卷中，大部分的翻譯錯誤都是起因於考生的理解錯誤。
在考研翻譯中的所有句子基本上都是結構複雜的長難句，所以理清句子結構層次就顯得至關重要。在翻譯句子之前，先通讀全句，注意一邊讀一邊拆分句子的語法結構。
例如：
Social science is that branch of intellectual enquiry which seeks to study humans and their endeavors in the same reasoned， orderly， systematic， and dispassioned manner that natural scientists use for the study of natural phenomena.(2003考研翻譯真題)
拆分句子：
(1)句子的主幹是：Social science is that branch of intellectual enquiry;
(2)定語從句：which後面是一個定語從句，其先行詞是social science;
(3)方式狀語：in the same reasoned， orderly， systematic， and dispassioned manner是方式狀語。其中的reasoned， orderly， systematic， and dispassioned是並列定語，修飾manner;
(4)定語從句：that natural scientists use for the study of natural phenomena是定語從句，其先行詞是manner;
(5)拆分後句子的總結構是： Social science is that branch of intellectual enquiry(主幹) which seeks to study humans and their endeavors(定語從句) in the same reasoned， orderly， systematic， and dispassioned manner(方式狀語) that natural scientists use for the study of natural phenomena.(定語從句)
二、對譯入語進行適當調整
確定主語,調整語序
英語為主語顯著的語言,主語突出,除省略句以外，一般情況下每個句子都有主語;
而漢語則是主題顯著的語言，主題突出，主語不突出;
因而在英譯漢過程中,確定主語,調整句序往往是一個需要動腦筋的問題。
例如：
Nightfall found him many miles short of his appointed preaching place.
這句話按原文的語序，Nightfall (夜幕) 作主語，按原語序照樣翻譯下去，譯文會顯得彆扭，不自然。
按照漢語的語言習慣,應選用“他”作主語。
因而正確的翻譯是：夜幕降臨時,他離預定的佈道地點還有好多英里路。
在英漢翻譯過程中,之所以產生這樣的問題是因為英漢兩種語言的語法結構、行文習慣、思維模式不同。
英美人強調客觀,常用物、抽象概念、非人稱it 作主語，讓事物以客觀的口氣呈現出來，使敘述顯得公正、客觀，結構趨於嚴密、緊湊，語氣較為委婉、間接。
英漢翻譯時，所確定的主語是否恰當，必須考慮譯文是否符合漢族人民的思維模式。
例如：
Bitterness fed on the man who had made the world laugh.
(這位曾使全世界人發出笑聲的人自己卻飽經辛酸。)
英文用抽象名詞bitterness 作主語，漢語卻用“這位曾使世界人發出笑聲的人”作主語;
例如：
It never occurred to her that he was a dishonest man.
(她從來沒想到他是個不誠實的人。)
英文用形式主語it 作主語，漢語用“她”作主語。意思是：這種念頭從來沒有閃過她的腦際。
