託福閱讀解題的過程實際上也就是兩大快速閱讀技巧的結合：略讀(Skimming瞭解中心) +查讀(Scanning查詢細節)。skimming 和scanning 都要求能快速準確地識別關鍵詞或片語(定位速度)。而恰恰這一步是大家所不熟悉和忽略的。這肯定不是詞彙量不足的問題。要真正提高託福閱讀速度，必須首先提高定位速度。
這裡給大家介紹一下“掃視定位法”，即變逐字、逐句閱讀為字群、詞群、意群閱讀，用一目一行，一目多行等方式，以高於平時精讀幾倍乃至幾十倍的速度掃視閱讀材料，從而快速在原文中定位到題幹中的關鍵詞。具體做到：避免眼球沒有規律的掃視; 避免中途回視;加快眼動速度，逐步擴大“視知覺廣度”。“視知覺廣度”大，由於眼球注視時間短和中途回視的次數少(眼動速度快)，閱讀的平均速度就比較快。
