上週六，人口計生委高階官員在紀念計劃生育政策出臺30週年的活動中表示，中國將在未來幾十年內堅持計劃生育政策，保持低生育率。
在上面的報道中，fertility rate即“生育率”，是指不同時期、不同地區women of child-bearingage(育齡婦女)實際生育水平或生育子女的數量，是總出生數與相應人口中育齡婦女人數之間的.比例。Fertility是“生育力、繁殖力”的意思，其反義詞是sterility，意即“不孕、不育”。
人口狀況是影響國家發展的重要一環，特定時期的人口結構可能產生demographicpidend(人口紅利)，促進經濟發展。人口過多會造成資源緊張，阻礙經濟發展，但是生育率過低也會導致aging ofpopulation(人口老齡化)等，一系列side effect(副作用)，可能對經濟發展產生阻礙。在過去三十年間，我國嚴格執行計劃生育政策，extrabirths(超生人口)一律徵收social compensation fees(社會撫養費)。
