1. To explain where the applicant has got the information about the vacancy.

For example, he can learn it from his friends, or by advertisement, or in papers, or he just wants to try his luck.

SAMPLE: Having noticed the enclosed advertisement in this morning's South China Daily, I wish to apply for the position of sale's manager.

2. Presentation of personal information.

This part should be a description of the applicants' age, sex, education, work experience and specialty. It is in this section that the applicant presents his advantages or qualifications for the position. Details are encouraged, but the applicant should bear it in mind that exaggeration or false descriptions are not allowed in the letter.

3. To claim your references (推薦人).

The applicant is well advised to enclose in the letter the names as well as the addresses of two or three references after he has gotten their permission. References are of great importance for obtaining a job, for they are the best and most persuasive support for the candidate's potential and merits.

二、在提到希望得到的待遇時,可用類似的句子:

I'd prefer not to set a salary, but since you ask, I consider 6,500 a month to be satisfactory.

It's hard for me to say what my salary should be set at, but if pressed I would have to ask for a month as an initial salary.

I don't feel that I should set my own salary, as I am happy enough to have the privilege of working for you. However, I would consider a month satisfactory compensation for my apprenticeship.

三、提起或要求待遇時不要過分謙虛或表示歉意,下列句子不宜使用:

As for salary, I do not know what to say. Would $4,500 a month be too much?

四、關於求職信的結尾用語,下面也有三組例句。每一組裡面(1)句較差,經過修改後(2)句顯得比較恰當。

A:

(1)軟弱、羞怯的: If you think I can fill the position after you have read my letter, I shall be glad to talk with you.

(2)改寫後(較佳): If my qualifications meet your standards, I would be happy to speak with you in person.

B:

(1) 懷疑,不妥、不安全的: If you are interested, please let me know immediately, as I'm sure an interview will convince you I'm the man for the job.

(2) 改寫後:I would like to request an interview. You can reach me by telephone at Beijing 123456 between the hours of 7-9 a.m. and 5:30-9:30p.m. any evening.

C:

(1) 哀求式的句子,不夠完整(漏掉面談時間):I would appreciate the opportunity for an interview. I can be reached by calling Beijing 12345678.
